Global Zine Project is in production! Woop, whoop!
An update on SLART's GZP (Global Zine Project), and why zines on Substack—and, in our world—are important.
Dear Y’all,
My hat’s off to
for building this Substack home for ’s (credit to the creator) Global Zine Project that I’ve been helping out with for a couple of months. So far, so good. But no promises: we have a deadline to get a digital version of the this “mega-zine” out in May.More to say about the process! Collaborations are lovely. I don’t mean it in a facetious way. I am lucky to be here. I am happy that people submitted to this zine. What I’m finding out in the process is that people are beautifully talented. I’m inspired each day.
Zines are democratizing. They’re empowering to do—they require no middle man (although some can have publishers). Zines are collective and collaborative by nature. Zines can be solo, but we know even solozines have sweat (and possibly tears) behind them.
I thought to post some inspired art—in the form of collage! I see a lot of collage art + zine publications on Substack, so I want to reflect that.
I cut out the letters from a ‘90s publication of ART FORUM. The “GLOBAL” is modern surrealist/neo-expressionist, Manuel Ocampo, who’s known for doing art for Beck’s album, Odelay.
No disrespect to Ocampo…
thanks for posting this- I was wondering about the zine!
